As a homeschooler I LOVE books!! We literally have over 1,000 books in our house. I know because I put them all in Library Thing so I could actually use the books I have. It is pretty neat – It is free until you reach 1,000 books, I think.
Anyway, another amazing resource I found about 8 months ago is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The program is for children born on or after September 1, 2010. Each month the child receives a free book in the mail. And they are great books!! In fact, this past month we got one of my favorite books of all time Llama Llama Red Pajama.
If you have not read this one – you must at least check it out from the library – super cute!! My children especially like it when I dramatize the actions of Llama Llama. Basically, Little Llama is afraid to go to bed by himself and so he proceeds to fuss and pout and stomp about. But at the end Mama Llama reminds him that he is not alone – that Mama Llama is always close by. Then she kisses him and tucks him in again. It is a sweet book.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a wonderful organization out to help literacy in America! So look it up today and see if it is available near you. You may not have a child that fits into the age group but please share with others so they can enjoy such a wonderful gift!
