After reading Victoria’s summer reading list it got me thinking all about books.  There are several books that I personally want to read – maybe I will share some of them with you soon.  But now I wanted to share some of my favorite book stuff.

First I found the BEST APP for my iPhone.  Seriously this is cool.  We have over 1,000 books in our house.  No, I did not sit down and count them, but I did enter them all into a website called Library Thing.  Great site – you enter in your books and then you can search them to find things.  It is free until you pass the 1,000 book mark.  Yep, that is how I know I have over 1,000 books.  Neat site though – you can even share it with friends to see what they have that you might want to borrow.

So, back to the BEST APP.  It is Book Retriever.  For a mere $0.99 I can scan in every book I own (or type in if it is not already in their collection)  and then scan out books when someone wants to borrow one.  I did it just yesterday and I was so excited!!  Of course I am the type of person that loves school and office supplies; to have my own little library with scanning ability on my phone is pretty thrilling.

Another great book find is the website Book Adventure.  This is a free site and all the child needs to do is find the book they read, click and they can take a quiz to see if the comprehended what they read.  There are over 8,000 book titles and quizzes available.  In addition to the quizzes there are also games, printables and a prize library.  Yes, you can enter in prizes for the child to earn through reading.

One last site that is pretty neat is Books Should Be Free.  Here you will find tons of free audiobooks available in mp3, iPod or iTunes format.  So many amazing classics like Pride and Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Three Musketeers.

Books, I just love books!  So I hope you can find something here helpful to you or your children to fuel your love for books.

    • It is great. I used it again today as a friend left the house with a book. I have a terrible memory so now I can better keep up with my books!

  1. We scout out the free kindle/nook books on Fridays for kids, I’ll have to check these other places out too!
    Thanks for the list!

  2. I had a scanner once, and started scanning my collection. Then I let my little brother borrow it and never got it back. If I ever manage to get a smart phone, I’ll definitely check out those apps!

    • Oh no! I love finding books at garage sales. I am with you on reading the old fashioned way. I still prefer turning the pages and underlining important parts!

    • I guess maybe I am lazy or simply do not have time but I am scanning the books into Book Retriever only as people borrow them. It is a lot of work but how nice to know exactly what you have.
