I was checking DenSchool’s facebook account yesterday and annoyed that I found a book on Pinterest called “The Night Daddy Went to Jail“. I had just finished posting about it when I clicked back to my private page and saw a post from a friend saying

“Who kills children? I can’t stop crying, this is horrible!”

I was clueless. We do not have local television access, so I tabbed over to ABC News and discovered something even more horrible than that tiny little children’s book. I too found myself asking

“Who kills children?”

My heart broke for those parents, running down the road, not knowing what was going on.  Are their children alive?  Having to hold back their instinct to run past the police lines and search for their child. Praying “please let my baby be okay, please let my baby be okay”…begging for answers.

Shortly thereafter I started seeing homeschooling families’ status updates:

“This is why I homeschool”…

“Thank God I homeschool”…

“I was reassured today that our family is making the right choice by homeschooling”…

We are all very blessed to have the opportunity to stay home with our children. Not because we are able to prevent them from an event such as this, but because we have precious time with our children that other parents do not.  We have time with our children that even our own spouses do not.  I ask that you teach your children well during this time you have, but also, to enjoy your children well too.  Enjoying their presence and loving them teaches them how to love.   Teaching them to be a compassionate and loving person is something that isn’t taught anymore – if it was, we might not have witnessed such a horror.
