To start Leg 4 we arranged with a local martial arts place for a free demo. They broke the children into groups and taught them some basic moves. It was so much fun. My children had never been to a place like this so it was particularly neat for them. If you do not want to do martial arts you could consider a dance studio or other instructional place that has recently opened. A lot of times they will do free demos just to get their name out there. It is fun for you and advertising for them. Again, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
After the demonstrations we headed to another local historical site – Mala Compra. For this task we created a crossword puzzle using information from the historical signs. Here is a site for making puzzles.
In addition to the crossword puzzle, we also did a fill in the blank, unscramble puzzle. These puzzles took the kids longer than I had anticipated and we probably should have only done one at this location. There was so much history I thought it would work but it was a little too much. So think about that as you plan your legs.

Wow. As a vet homeschooler from the “old days,” I am continually amazed at the resourcefulness of homeschooling families. Lots of great stuff out there!
Thank you! We love to hear the ideas of the experienced also as there is still so much to learn.
Such a great idea, and what a way to get to know the neighborhood.
It is a wonderful way to incorporate a little local history into a whole lot of fun! Thanks for your comment
